Dynamic Export

Post by liederman »

hello
I'm performing advance reporting on my data with excel. To do that I'm now manually exporting amj file to csv and then elaborate the file with power query and excel.
Is there any way to access the .amj file from external program in order to perform a dynamic reporting on the acemoney data? Amj file is encrypted so there shall be a way to input the password and decrypt data.

This would be from my side a very important feature as I consider reporting within Acemoney quite limited.

An AMJ data file is encrypted, and the exact encryption format is not documented publicly*.

Even if you were to export the data to the older non-encrypted MMW format (which AMJ still uses internally), the MMW format is still a proprietary format that no other program knows how to work with, as the format was never documented publicly*.

(* There is actually documentation available, but you would have to request it from MechCAD directly, as I did many years ago for a project I was working on. But there is no guarantee that MechCAD will provide it anymore. I was able to get a copy of the documentation for the MMW format before Alex Simanov died, and the documentation for the AMJ format shortly after ownership moved to his surviving family. The AMJ format probably hasn't changed much since the last time I got a copy of the docs, but I'm sure the MMW format has evolved as new features have been added to AceMoney. The last time I got updated docs was before AceMoney Receipts was added.)

It is more involved than that. There is not just encryption involved. And also, the encryption key is not always just a password.

In what way? What kind of reporting do you want to do that you can't do inside of AceMoney itself? Have you submitted any feature requests to MechCAD Support about what you need?
