Thank you for your patience and continued communication. I got it.

My old system used SPLIT only to divide a transaction between different categories. The term CATEGORY in the SPLIT window should also be marked as SPLIT ACTION.. Anyway it took a while to wash the egg off my face but I now have a split schedule set up..
