Has anyone fixed AM crashing in High Sierra?

Post by wotserface »

I am not getting very far with tech support so I hope another user has some ideas I can try.

Initially AM wouldn't open so following advice here I unchecked boxes in wineskin screen options. AM then opened (it looked a bit different with the appearance of what looks like a microsoft windows type tool bar), but it wont stay open and quits after 30-60 seconds open.

Since then I have done a combination of checking / unchecking boxes in screen options.
I updated wineskin
I have deleted and then reinstalled AM

Its still crashing.

Its been ten days since I lost the use of AM. Apple cant help as they say its not their software. Does anyone know how I can get it working again please. All help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I did the trick with the unchecking of the boxes in wineskin and it fixed it for me. This is from the post that I used:

MechCad provided instructions for modifying WineSkin options but they failed to allow AM to even start. ACEMONEY is not able to run on High Sierra. The instructions...
1. Open Finder and click on Applications folder

2. Right click or tap with two fingers on AceMoney app and select Show Package Contents

3. Launch Wineskin app and then click on Set Screen Options

4. Uncheck Use Mac Driver instead of X11

5. Click Done and close Wine

Waiting for them to reply with a fix ...

Have you visited posts under this heading? "ACEMONEY and macOS High Sierra (10.13)"
I posted there a few times re this issue but no joy for any of us I'm afraid.
Seems there is little point in contacting Mechad Software. We are all left high and dry.

Further to previous post today, I adjusted WineSkin Screen Options settings by unticking "Decorate windows" and leaving the three other settings as ticked. Then click "Done" and Quit Wineskin. Go to Force Quit to check it is closed.
Then go to your saved Acemoney.amj file and right click to open with AceMoney. After 5-10 seconds it should hopefully open as it did for me. Don't know how long this workaround will last though.

Thank you for replying. I am on holiday at the moment so don’t have access to my laptop. Ithink i did all your suggestions to no avail. I might have misssed the ‘decorate’ option, I tried so many combinations of checking and unchecking.

I am really stuck without this program and although I have been trialling another which has many decent functions the biggest, most vital function for me, is the ability to see where you will be with bank balances in the future. I contacted them ( and unlike Mechas, they responded swiftly) and it would seem many users have been asking for this feature and the developer is working on adding this. Fingers crossed that is true. I have used Ace for what seems like a lifetime and I think everyone I know has it because I have extolled it’s virtues. I won’t anymore.

I will keep nagging the other software folk because it’s Mac specific and they’ll be able to cope better I suspect. Thank you again, I will try again and let you know.

Hi wotserface, Here's hoping my work around works for you; but it is a pain to have to click on dropbox, and double click the file and wait for some seconds before it opens. As I live in Australia and use a credit union instead of a bank I don't use the bank facility. I used the MS Money (still no-one has matched it!) desktop version until about 3 years ago and then when I upgraded to a Mac I couldn't use it anymore. I can still use Acemoney on Windows 8.1 through Parallels Desktop on my Macbook as a backup if needed. I have it installed there also, and it uses the exact same file. However, I prefer to go offline when I use it as Parallels is an older version and I don't want my laptop being infiltrated by undesireables via this back door. Parallels Desktop is easy to use and this may be another option for you. However if you can transfer your files to your new program that may be the best way to go. Would you please let me know what the name of your program is as I might need to consider it in the future as well? Thanks & regards Glen.

Hi again, I am home now and have tried all the above, still nothing.

After days of silence Mechad support finally dropped me another message - telling me to force Wineskin to quit or log out of my mac. Nothing. I have tried every which way I know of opening, closing, quitting, ticking, unticking, inspecting etc etc and nothing. They just don't have any answers so I am stuck.

The other program is called Checkbook, I haven't had a good look around as I was going away but it looks great aside from the forward planning bit.

I also found this article, I am going to do some homework now I am home. https://www.thebalance.com/top-mac-pers ... re-1293786

Found the following over at the Yahoo Group and it worked for me.
1 went into "Screen Options"
2 went down to "Other Options,"
3 checked all the items except "Auto Detect GPU"
4 clicked "Done."
5 clicked "Advanced"
6 then clicked "Tools,"
7 clicked on "Kill Wineskin Process" because the video settings cannot be changed if Wine is fully running.
8 clicked "Winetricks."
9 in the search bar typed "video."
10 clicked the down arrow for "settings,"
11 put a checkmark next to the second item "Tell Wine your video card has 2048MB RAM"
12 clicked "Close"
13 exited from Wineskin.

If you still have trouble running AceMoney at this point, try restarting your computer to clear out your RAM. Good luck
