For UK users

Hi great piece of software you blow others out of the water IMO, and I am seriously thinking of upgrading from the free version after using it for a few hours.

However I have noticed a couple of things that you could possibly add for we 'UK users':

Firstly is there any way you can add some of the major UK banks to your automatic bank transaction download schedule? They are all American at the moment.

Also you should at least include the Nikkei and FSTE indexes as default index selections amongst other ones? Very American-centric at the moment.

More importantly (for me) - can you add the possibility for the user to be able to change some of the bank labels for example in the UK we call the Bank Routeing Code a 'Sort Code' - it would be even better if this changed automatically once UK was selected as a language though.

Otherwise I have to say it a great little program.

By the way 'Which' is a massively respected review site in the UK, you should perhaps put some of what they say on your website might encourage more UK sales for you, it's where I heard of your program, (but I happen to disagree with them when they say Banktree is better) :

I should probably say for new UK users coming to this forum and thinking that AceMoney is not very UK compatible that it is fully usable with UK accounts and that you can download a Quicken statement file from your online bank account and import it easily into AceMoney. This is what I do with my Lloyds TSB account. Most banks provide for exporting statement transactions if you use online banking. It's only the direct transaction download feature acessible from inside Acemoney that doesnt work with UK banks because all the provided banks for that feature are American. But it's no great loss.

Have you done this yourself? If so perhaps you could send your modified file to the developers? I would love to see it placed on their website as an official patch for UK users. If it included all the other UK changes above that I mentioned it could be a great idea for them to offer it as an official UK patch for the program.

Yes I have done it myself and it's really not difficult. I'm pretty sure, though, that you need to go through the process again whenever you upgrade.

When all's said and done, though, it's a purely cosmetic issue and I think that the other changes/features that you mention might require a different approach.

Of course, the GB pound is just one of a large number of other currencies and symbols that I'm sure many users would like to see in AM. While it would be good to have these as options, I guess that when time and resources are limited, the reality is that it's probably going to be fairly low down the wish list.

It is my understanding (from reading the AceMoney Yahoo Group) that UK banks are not included in direct download because most, if not all, of them do not provide the requisite OFX server. If your bank(s) do have the required server, and you provide the address to AceMoney support, I'm sure they will be happy to update the list.

May have misunderstood about the £ icon but I think this has been covered before on the old forum. Basically If you right mouse click on the acemoney icon on your desktop and left mouse click on properties then change icon you will see the £, click on it then apply. I did this a while back and it remains following upgrades

They have done the hard part- making the program work cleanly, now they just have to provide versions for various countries and advertise them in that country to win new business. I am sure that there must be thousands of MS Money users, looking for something to upgrade to, just in the UK alone. At the moment worse programs like Banktree are getting higher ratings in UK reviews just because they are a British program.

Yes you are correct but I was really referring to AM's internal icons. When you start the program, for example, there's a dialog box to type in your password which has a fairly large icon - you can change this to a GB pound sign instead of a dollar symbol.

As noted, though, it's purely cosmetic .. but I just like tinkering...

Well I agree that AM is a great program; at least for the kind of purposes that I bought it for. Like others, I'm a refugee from an older version of Quicken. I tried a few others - including BankTree - before opting for AM.

You mentioned the 'Which' reviews. Unfortunately, they chose to review AM Lite and, in doing so, highlighted its limitations. They made no mention of the full version of AM though, of course, it was the full version of BankTree (and others) that they were comparing it to. Nor, of course, did it emerge that the modest cost is a one-off and includes lifetime updates...
