Was there ever a Linux version of AceMoney?

No. There has only been:
  • a Windows version
  • a Mac OSX version (which is just the Windows version running inside a WINE emulator)
  • a Windows Mobile and PocketPC version.
  • an Android companion app (AceMoney Receipts).

The WINE and PlayOnLinux applications allow you to run AceMoney on Linux properly.
I have been using them on Ubuntu version 20.10 for a few months without a problem.
